Historians say it’s the song that nobody knows, and yet we’ve all tried to sing it. “Auld Lang Syne” is the title of a 1788 Scottish poem by Robert Burns, typically sung immediately after the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. The phrase “Auld Lang Syne” translates to “old long since,” so as an appropriate toast for the new year, people tend to start singing “let’s drink to days gone by.”

And time sure has flown by this year as we can’t believe we’ve put together the final issue of Northwest Bergen Lifestyle for 2019! It seems like just yesterday I was sitting down to write my January letter to all of you and yet, here we are, almost time to do it again. While we certainly don’t want to wish our lives away, we’re always looking toward the future.

So, for now, we’re going to slow down a bit and enjoy December, the very last month of the decade! Don’t fight the traffic and the hustle and bustle of the season. “Keep it local” by checking out our Lifestyle Calendar to see what’s happening minutes from your home.

The end of the year is always a time to reflect on the actions we have taken to help the less fortunate. Well, the year is not over yet, so take a moment to read about the Center for Food Action in Mahwah and hopefully, you will be inspired to get involved. When considering your gift purchases for the holidays, check out the All is Well Boutique in Wyckoff, operated by the All is Well Foundation, a nonprofit supporting cancer research and care, local charities and education.

Please check out our wonderful “Local” Northwest Bergen Lifestyle Gift Giving Guide put together by Sally St. Clair of Run About Town, a personal concierge service based in Upper Saddle River.

Believe it or not, the 2020 tax season is almost underway. During the final weeks of 2019, speak with Kelly Haggerty, MBA, CPA and partner of The Haggerty Group based in Ridgewood. Advanced planning may help you to take advantage of opportunities and benefits available under the current tax code. And to end the 2019 year, how about a last-minute New Year’s getaway to Las Vegas; the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine; or Aruba personally and carefully planned by our local travel experts at JJ Travel Associates?

Lastly, enjoy your time with family and friends, bask in the magic of the winter season, reflect on memories you hold closely in your hearts, and keep the new ones you create in the present for as long as you can.

We can’t wait to see you next year!
